Los Angeles Trendsetter turned Tastemaker is raising the bar:
Candela Taco Bar Open July 2009!
Los Angeles, California: Maria Lopez, of the esteemed Lopez Family; who have owned
and maintained the “Leonardo’s Nightclub” brand for over 30 years has decided to
spread her wings in the direction of authentic Mexican Cuisine. Candela Taco Bar and
Lounge has been a brain child of Maria’s for quite some time and has finally been born
as a chic, sexy restaurant; with such appeal to the masses, and the most tantalizing
Mexican food imaginable. Located adjacent to Leonardo’s at 831 South La Brea,
Candela Taco Bar is situated in a prime location for people venturing out from all over
Los Angeles.
“Candela Taco Bar is a place where I’d like people to learn about authentic
Mexican Cuisine,” says Lopez. "Most people think that “Americanized” Mexican food
is authentic, and that’s what I aim to change.” It will definitely change the way you
perceive Mexican food, if you are used to the more Americanized style. Maria has
placed a plethora of different dishes onto Candela’s menu ranging from every type
of authentic taco imaginable, fresh salads and traditional soups, and staple dishes
created in every Mexican household such as “Chile Relleno con queso,” (a roasted
poblano pepper filled with Monterrey jack cheese) and “Carne Asada,”(marinated grilled
skirt steak) with all of the traditional accompaniments. Aside from the tantalizing flare,
Candela taco bar has a full bar with a great selection of tequilas, which make for an
outstanding margarita selection, and offer an ever changing daily selection of “aguas
frescas,” (traditional Mexican fruit drinks). Candela also hosts “Happy Hour” Monday
through Sunday from 4pm-7pm, and offers $3 Margaritas Mondays along with $1 tacos
all day every Wednesday!
Lopez wants to change the image of Mexican food for those who aren’t familiar
with it, and for those who are, she along with the help of her amazing team of chefs, will
